About This Product

Feed the roots, not the algae (like liquid fertilizers do). Used as a complete system with our exclusive AquaDurt Freshwater Substrate, we guarantee total success of your planted aquarium.

(ask our tech guys if you have the proper lighting etc.)

Aquarium plants require certain essential nutrients, besides a source of carbon (carbon dioxide), to produce and maintain green foliage and strong roots. Without proper fertilization, aquarium plants gradually turn yellow, drop leaves, and eventually die. AquaFertz: "Substrate Vitalization System" is formulated to supply plants with Macro and Micro Nutrients at your plants root zone where they belong.

AquaFertz Substrate Vitalization System helps new plants get a vigorous start and keep established plants flourishing. The Substrate Vitalizer System will replenish the nutrients in a worn-out substrate in place, making substrate replacement unnecessary.

EXTRA INFORMATION:

Here are some common misconceptions or misguided theories about aquarium plants and nutrients:
-I don't need to add nutrients because I have fish in my tank and they produce adequate nutrients for the plants...WRONG
-I don't need to add nutrients because I am using Eco-complete or Flourite or Laterite as a substrate...WRONG
-I don't need to add nutrients "at the roots" because I am using a liquid fertilizer in the water...WRONG
-Rooted Aquarium plants can absorb all the nutrients they need through their leaves WRONG
-Now that my tank is looking the way I've always wanted it to, my substrate is running out of nutrients so Ill have to break it down and start all over .WRONG

BASIC PLANT FACTS: Why aquatic plants flourish in the wild and how we can cause them to flourish in our Aquarium Gardens

AquaFertz Substrate Pellets are specifically formulated and engineered to work as part of the AquaDurt Super Substrate System. AquaDurt Super Substrate is a fired fractured clay substrate engineered specifically to work with AquaFertz Substrate Pellets. Each substrate granule is covered with micro porous surface fractures. AquaFertz Substrate Pellets are engineered to expand between the substrate granules and also into the fractured matrix of the substrate granules surfaces after injection. This adds natural chelation and holds the nutrients tightly in place at your plants roots for a gradual timed release.

  • IRON SUBSTRATE PELLETS

Iron Pellets provide essential Chelated Iron for accelerated growth and greening of tropical Aquarium Plants. Iron is precision chelated to assure effective uptake by plants. Use Iron Pellets when plants are observed to be growing in the meristem (growth zones) but dying in older parts of the plant or when general yellowing is observed.

    Pellet Applicator is Very Cool

Posted by Paul W Graham on Jun 30th 2015

Puts the pellet exactly where you need it without disturbing anything. Simple and effective. I have started using these fert pellets regularly because of this truly slick tool. I have been using less water-column food solutions, and algae is significantly reduced. Plants are doing great.

Incredible product at an amazing price.

I've been using the TOTAL pellets for a few weeks now and I'm shocked at the results. I've used SeaChem products for a long time and I truly love them, but this seems to be much more cost effective and functional. You will see almost instant improvements in your plants color, growth, and overall health. By the first week you will SEE the difference. I highly reccomend purchasing the pellet applicator as well, it's a simple tool but you will thank yourself for it.

Stop searching! This IS the best ferts out there!

Posted by Daniel Smith on Nov 26th 2012

I recently started my first planted tank, and it's loaded with plants. They all came from aquariumplants.com, and when they arrived I have to be honest, I was a little disappointed in some of the plants, because they were either mush or just butchered up. BUT- after I trimmed the roots and pruned all the dead parts off of them and got them planted and put in the ferts, after a week the plants I thought that were sent to their graves literally shot up (like 5 inches!) and had SO much more color. Like my ludwigia- it was mush and not even green when I planted it. Now it has grown crazy and has so much red color! I am constantly trimming it! I use TOTAL, IRON, and PHOSPHATE. I use Flouish Excel for C02 also. Oh- and get a pellet applicator! I have a 2 foot tall tank and I would have punched myself if I didn't get one of those miracle workers. They are easy to use and I don't have to stick my arm up to my armpits in water to shove some pellets under the substrate. So yeah, it's great!!

    Great stuff

Posted by Huw Powell on May 22nd 2011

My first batch of plants 4 months ago was showing signs of attrition - amazon sword growing smaller, lighter-colored leaves, jungle vals growing but lighter, almost yellow leaves. So I knew I needed to give them at least some iron and probably more. I started with a bottle of Total and one of iron, and a 24" insertion tool. put about 30 and 15 respectively in my 75g, and within two weeks I could see a difference - the sword was growing greener, longer, narrower leaves, and the vals were also greening up nicely. Here 3 months later the sword (and another I bought, and their babies) are still slowly getting bigger. Moral of the story: buy your fertilizer from the people who grow plants for a living!

    AwesomeProduct

Posted by john worline on Jan 29th 2010

I have used total, iron, and the phosphate. I only have sand for a substrate and with these pellets my plants are thriving even without CO2!! I only have lights and this fertilizer and my sword plants are huge and propagating in my warm water discus tank. My fish are spawning on the leafs and every thing has not looked better. You cannot go wrong with aquariumplants.com and the staff is completely helpfull and is very noligable. Thanks for all your help. The applicator tubes are also great in that I no longer have to stick my arm in my tank as it is 2 and a half feet tall.

Need info on the liquid ferts

Posted by Unknown on Dec 28th 2009

I bought the liquid fertilizer to go along with the TOTAL pellets, but unfortunately there are NO dosing instructions on the bottle, nor does it say what is in the actual liquid. When asking the rep on the phone how much to dose, I was simply told "one to two drops, once or twice a week...depending on plant load." That doesn't really help much, so I'm hesitant to use the stuff.

    good product

My plants that were dying before are doing great since I started using this fertilizer, as well as Aquarium Plants own substrate. The pellet applicator makes the pellets super easy to use.

    TOTAL

Posted by Michael Kochanski on Feb 27th 2009

I used this product once last year and my plants just took off. I thought I was good to go, so I went back to liquid supplements from my LFS. After a couple of months I started to get algae blooms. I stopped using the liquid supplements and went back to TOTAL and behold, the algae went away and plants took off again. I am back for another order of TOTAL and will continue using this stuff every month. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THIS PRODUCT!

I have used TOTAL substrate pellets for 3 months. I have less algae and have more lush plants than I had with liquid fertilizer.

    "TOTAL"LY satisfied with this product

Posted by Unknown on Mar 14th 2008

I have had live plants for 40 years (and been moderately successful). While placing an order via the phone, the rep told me about a "guaranteed" product, their substrate fert pellets. He told me to use them with NO liquid ferts, and he would guarantee the success of my plants, or my money back. NOW, I've been around the block and heard and seen it all...so, I thought $11.99 was worth a try. All I can say is this: THIS PRODUCT WORKS ! Since using the pellets, I have ZERO algae, I use NO liquid ferts, and my plants have NEVER shown such prolific growth and beautifull coloration. I was skeptical, but, when I find a product that truly lives up to it's guarantee, I am compelled to take the time to give it's fair ado...In all my years growning aquarium plants, I never realized the importance of feeding the plants at the roots. Liquid ferts do nothing but cause algae and never reach the roots where the nutrients are needed
