Black Chocolate Shrimp (1 shrimp)freshwater shrimp
They are fantastic at eating algae and are easy to care for. They are a good size, 2" max, and have some nice spotted patterns on the body. They can be kept in a wide range of water parameters. They can be greedy eaters and can steal food from smaller shrimp.
Amano shrimp are excellent algae eaters. When you keep a large group of them or if they clean your tank you will need to supplement them with food. They love sinking pellets of most brands.
The easiest way to determine the sex of an Amano Shrimp is their lowest stripe along the length of the body. Male shrimp have a line of separate dots while females have dashes almost appearing to be a broken line.
They are very hard to breed in the home aquarium. Amano shrimp hatch larvae that require salt water to grow before they come back as the freshwater shrimp we know.
