About This Product

Purple Cabomba, Cabomba pulcherrima, is a hardy plant that has found its way into a number of planted aquariums for its pretty purple hues. Cabomba has the ability to thrive in a wide variety of water conditions. The fast growth of Cabomba also draws a number of aquarists to help keep nutrient levels and possible algae blooms under control. Found from the regions of Central to South Americas, Cabomba reproduces via cuttings. Flowers and seeds are also employed for reproduction at times by Cabomba. This lush plant will make a great backdrop in your aquarium. Several bunches are recommended for initial plantings, with individual plants being grouped closely.

    Not Red

Posted by Hannah Anderson on Aug 30th 2009

Tyler (below) is correct. Not same species. The Red Cabomba grows a little differently than the others and is exceptionally difficult compared to the others as well. I ordered 2 bunches, one arrived DOA, but the other was so full and tall I made it into 3 plantings (3 groups of 3.) It is growing fast and strong, and the dark green color is fantastic. It's my darkest plant. Ordered a dozen different plants, 2 were DOA, 2 died shortly after, but the rest were all gorgeous and bigger/fuller than expected. Death may be due to 2 day shipping instead of overnight.

    R. Cabomba-VERY FAST Growing & Strong

Posted by Dawn on Aug 15th 2009

Not truly red, but moreso tinged at the tops. With my continued experience with this plant I have found it to be extremely hardy and not delicate in the least bit. This comes in bunches, is an extremely fast grower (I'd compare the growth rate to that of a weed) and can quickly overtake the tank if you replant your prunings. Definate good filler if your strapped for cash, but want a fully planted look to your tank. Even in a 90g I was constantly needing to prune this plant back, apparently my low pH and moderately high lighting made an ideal environment for this plant, which by the way is a definate background plant. Looks very nice in groups and my inhabitants loved swimming between and within the clusters of it and did not eat it (community tank).

    Tall and flowing

This plant takes root fast and grows tall, so it will look nice and full in the background. It has lovely white flowers and a purple tint to its dark lush green foliage. Execellent addition to any tank.

Not purple at all but DARK GREEN

Posted by Tyler on Jul 23rd 2009

The plant pictured is likely not this same species, but probably Cabomba furcata. This plant is very dark green with light purple on the underside of the leaves. It was very easy to grow, but I wanted a redish plant and what I got was dark green. And what grew for a month was green so I pulled it. I recommend the furcata to anyone who can get their hands on it and not this one unless you want something dark green.

This plant is so easy to grow, roots quickly, and is a beautiful contrast. Mine has green, purple, and the red/orange leafs! ....I think it has something to do with ph? I HIGHLY recommend this plant! It is beautiful and REALLY easy to grow! Thanks!

    Love this plant

This plant was a beautiful addition to our aquarium. It isn't quite as purple as the picture, it's more of a greenish color with purplish highlights. Very sturdy plant, routes very quickly, and a great place for my fish to hide. I would recommend this plant for anyone. With these prices, you can't go wrong.

Gorgeous! However, the ones I recieved are not golden like the photo. The purple accent coloring is very handsome. Looke beautiful with the ludwigia. Any that purchase these will not be disappointed!
