About This Product

Cryptocoryne wendtii "Red" is a beautiful reddish brown variety of Cryptocoryne wendtii. It is a mistake to believe that Cryptocorynes require soft water. In large parts of Sri Lanka the water is hard, so Sri Lanka Cryptocorynes are almost all suitable for hard water. If the plant is affected by the so called "cryptocoryne disease", do not remove it from the aquarium because a few weeks later it will produce new shoots. See other Cryptocorynes for further information.

    Maybe my bad luck

Posted by Unknown on Feb 23rd 2020

I ordered one of these for my 29g tank, along with 10 other plants, mostly crypts. They all arrived looking healthy and hardy. It might have just been bad luck but this is the only plant that didn't survive once planted. It melted back completely and I waited patiently for it to bounce back but only saw one or two tiny shoots come up. Finally I decided to plant something else there, but when I went to dig the hole in the subtrate I found a giant mass of rotting roots that released a bunch of hydrogen sulfide gas when it came up. Worst smell ever. I saved two tiny rhizomes with a tiny leaf attached and planted them elsewhere. Hopefully those survive.

    Hardy Plant Looks Great

Posted by Unknown on Mar 20th 2018

I've had this plant since 2013 and it has been through some rough tank moves. It always seems to bounce back. It has thrived in low light/ low tech tanks and high tech tanks. It is a bit of a slow grower if it is inundated with algae.

    Nice plants!

Posted by Newbie on Mar 31st 2013

I ordered two of these. They've only been in for two days and they are doing great! The plants arrived fine (2 day shipping), one was large and the other small. Both plants had great, strong root systems. On the second day since planting, both plants are putting out new leaves already! So far, I'm very pleased.

    Tough Little Plant

The plant had to come through the Indiana winter in shipping, and despite of this it suffered only a little die off and already has new growth within the week.

    Awesome plant

Posted by Ryan on Dec 12th 2010

I've had this plant about a year now. It arrived with 4 stems, so i was a little skeptical.....several months later i have baby plants coming out of my ears and those 4 leaves turned into about a million. Great, undemanding plants. Will do just fine without CO2, although the leaves def. get broader and a tad longer with co2.

    Nice plant

Posted by Unknown on Aug 11th 2009

I completely agree that it is a nice plant for the price. It was a nice size on arrival, and has been healthy for the 2 weeks I have had it. Getting bigger already. I really like how the undersides of the leaves are reddish, and that there is a crinkly wavy look to the edge of the leaves. A plant with some character!
