Placed order for NERITE OLIVE SNAILS never received them, called and spoke to someone I was told shipping amount was incorrect and would send request for additional never happened
Ordered 2 snails, received 4, 2 of them seem to have cracks in the shell, but it doesn't seem to bother them a bit. Started moving within 10 minutes of getting into the water, seem very healthy and happy.
My 75 gallon tank is CLEAN AS CRYSTAL, after adding 15 of these nerite snails...they are an unbelievably simple cure..haven't scraped the glass since i put them in, and no cruddy algae growth on plants, rocks, or driftwood.. best thing since sliced bread!
I bought about 14 of them to clean my 20gallon aquarium which has a lot of plants and had black/hair algae all over the glass, plants, heater, and filters. 2 died, the other ones play dead during the day. But after 1 month it's super clean. I just saw in the first weeks areas of algae vanishing over night like someone scrubbed it thoroughly. I highly recommend with java moss (x-mass moss is nice). The moss deprives the algae from nutrients and the nails eat the algae. Sometimes I had to place a snail on a hard to reach plant leaf and it scrubbed it by next day.
I have been struggling with brown diatom algae for months in my 25 gallon. I bought a dozen snails and received about 18. The first night not much happened as they mainly explored the front glass which I keep pretty clean. But over the week-end, wow! In 2 days time all of the glass is sparkling, even the heater tube, my huge zebra rock is pristine and all of the large sword and anubias leaves are clean. We're talking probably 2 dozen 2" wide leaves that were BROWN and are now returned to bright green. I went and bought some sinking algae wafers because these guys are just amazing and I'm going to run out of algae for them really fast.
Keep reading it is all true.I thought my plants were messed up, 'til one of these guys finished with it. Like new. I liked the eggs as my blue rams loved eating them. The main thing is no algae ANYWHERE. Well worth the price, even if I do have to order more every few mos.(Discus tank bound to miss two or three doing water changes) Just got a larger tank, sooo more Nerites.
It is amazing to me that people like the poster who complains that nerites must be "A-sexual" because they lay eggs all over the place manage to keep ANYTHING alive. If you take five minutes to do a little research on the animal you are going to purchase you will find out that Nerites can't reproduce in freshwater but that they will lay eggs. Sheeeesh.
I'v had these snails over a year and they are, by far, the best cleaners ever. Always had some algae now I never do. Snails are long lasting and do grow only a little bit. Six stars if I could.
I ordered two and received six! No complaints - thank you!! They arrived alive and in good health and are busy at work cleaning my tanks. Thanks!!
These snails definitely do their job. My tank looks great but I'm quite disappointed in the fact that they told me the snails wouldn't mate in freshwater. Well, if they don't mate, they must be A-sexual because I have white little eggs all over my tank and live plants. Now I have to continually clean these up. DISAPPOINTED.
I was going out of my mind fighting algae in my aquariums. Purchased every algaecide imaginable, cleaned the plants & rocks by hand, but couldn't keep up with the algae: the faster I cleaned, it came back faster. Totally frustrated, I called Randy @ Aquarium Plants and was asked: have you tried Nerite Snails? I replied "the algae is bad enough, I don't need to be overrun by Snails too! He informed me they don't multiply, they just eat algae! He recommended 1 per 2 gallons of water but I "played it safe" and purchased 1 per 4 gallons, 15 in total. I dumped them in my aquariums last night and decided to take a "head count" this evening. They were all fine but you really have to see this to believe it! One 1/2" snail had cleaned off 4 leaves of a "Florida Crypt" and was starting on his 4th leave of an Anubias! Sit around and watch these "little guys" work: they are amazing!! I hope I can produce enough algae in the future to keep them happy!!
I had an algae problem with my 29gallon freshwater tank and did not want to use a chemical solution to get rid of them. I spoke to someone at Aquariumplants.com and he recommended I try using Nerite snails. He said that they would get rid of my algae in two weeks, including algae on my plants. I was skeptical that they would work but decided to try them before I tried a chemical to kill the algae. I just wanted to tell you that the snails are truly amazing...they are like little non-stop vacuum cleaners. Its been less than a week and most of the algae is already gone. I never would have thought they would have worked so well. Last night I watched one snail clean a leaf on one of the plants. When it was finished, the leaf was spotless. Thanks for recommending these little guys; its the natural solution I was looking for. Rick
