Proserpinaca palustris is an easy to grow stem plant that is typically light green with reddish tops.
It is important to note that varying environmental conditions will alter the physiology of this plant greatly. Proserpinaca palustris will develop serrated edges around its leaves in its submerged growth to fend off would be predators. These edges are in fact not sharp at all. It is most distinctive from Proserpinaca palustris Cuba in that the leaves are generally less wide and needle-like.

Under higher light, the uppermost leaves will develop a red pigmentation. Carbon dioxide and light will increase the speed of its naturally moderate growth rate.
It can reach a height of 4-16 inches (10-40 cm) and a width of 2- 6 inches (5-15 cm).

In its emergent growth, the leaves are more round and distinctly green. In this type of growth, this plant will stay true to its common name and reproduce profusely via seeds.
Propagation is through trimming lateral shoots.
